Often called the Enthusiast or the Epicure. Different schools use different names for the same pattern; the number is the part everyone agrees on.

What drives it

People who land here move toward possibility. Anticipation is genuinely enjoyable, options feel like oxygen, and pain is something to be got through and reframed rather than sat in.

Wants to be satisfied, and free to pursue what is next. Fears being trapped, deprived, or stuck in pain.

At its best

Energising, quick and genuinely joyful. They can find the workable idea in a stuck room and get people moving.

Under strain

The moving becomes escaping. Commitments start to feel like traps, and the next plan arrives before the last one is finished.

What it looks like day to day

Booking the next thing while still at this thing. Reframing a bad day quickly, perhaps too quickly. Feeling the walls close in at the word 'always'.

The wings: 7w6 and 7w8

A wing is the type next door on the circle. Most people lean toward one of their two neighbours, and that lean flavours the core pattern without replacing it. It is worked out from how the adjacent types scored rather than measured with its own questions.

  • 7w6 More grounded and loyal. There is some caution running under the enthusiasm, and they stay put more than a plainer Seven would.
  • 7w8 More forceful and decisive. The appetite has teeth: they do not just want the experience, they go and take it.

Centre and direction

Types 5, 6 and 7 lead with thinking and orient around safety, planning and making sense of things. The feeling underneath tends to be fear, met by understanding, preparing or escaping.

Under stress, type 7 tends to pick up the less helpful habits of type 1. In growth it moves toward the healthier side of type 5. These are directions of travel rather than predictions, and they are part of the figure's own structure rather than anyone's proprietary model.

No type is the good one

Every type here describes a way of being a person, with its own strengths and its own costs. There is no healthier number and no better one to be, and anyone selling you a ranking of them is selling something. What a type is useful for is noticing your own pattern early enough to choose something else.

People also change. A type describes how you tend to operate now, not a limit on who you can become.

The statements that measure it

Type 7 is offered 24 times across the questionnaire, once against each of the other eight types, three times each. Here is every statement that counts toward it:

You are always choosing between two statements rather than rating one, because on a rating scale most people agree with most of the nine types and the result mostly measures self-esteem. Choosing is what separates them.
